Employee Spotlight: Søren Bang

What made you choose Sonic Minds as an employer specifically?
You can do a lot of things with sound design and work in a lot of different places, but I am interested in how music can communicate emotions and values, especially in branding. It’s pretty cool that even short audio clips like audio logos can make a big impact on people’s experience. When it comes to audio logos, you only have a brief moment to communicate with people, so you need to convey a lot of information in a short amount of time. I really want to learn how to do that.

Does it help, on the job, that you play instruments?
Yeah definitely, I mean, some of my classmates in school didn’t play any instruments and didn’t really make music, which is so different from my own experience. I have played music since I was a kid. So in a way, I’ve been communicating through music and sound my whole life and it has become a natural part of me. So, for me it makes sense that I work in a field where it is a cool skill to have.

What are some of your hobbies?
Two things I’m really passionate about are music and fishing. I absolutely love spending time out on the water, and fly fishing is a particular favourite of mine.

I want to inspire others with my music and sounds, and I believe that the best way of doing that is push against boundaries and experiment with new sounds.

What’s something you want to learn this year?
I recently purchased a Tufting machine, which is basically like a gun that shoots yarn onto a surface. It’s typically used in carpet making, but I’m excited to experiment with it and see what kind of creative projects I can come up with.

Who is your inspiration?
Yeah, I think most inspiration has come from musicians, of course. I have two sisters, two older sisters. They have probably been my greatest source of inspiration for the most part of my life.

How do you want to inspire others?
I always dreamt of playing at the Roskilde Festival and I played there this summer.

What are you most looking forward to, work wise?
What I am most looking forward to is meeting a lot of new people and expanding my own horizon. I think in terms of work there’s always something new to learn and improve upon and that’s exciting.

How would you describe your style, music wise?
I like unpredictable music because I don’t want to get bored. That is why I want to keep things interesting when I’m creating, because I want to inspire others with my music and sounds, and get inspired. I believe that the best way of doing that is push against boundaries and experiment with new sounds.

What is your greatest strength?
I’m actually really good at handling stress. Whenever I’m faced with a difficult task, I always try to approach it from a different perspective.

What do you like most about your job?
I’m really passionate about working with sound and I really like the whole vibe in the office. Even though I’ve only been here for a couple of weeks, the team has been very supportive and attentive to what I have to say. It’s been great that they trust me and are willing to give me a lot of responsibility right off the bat. That feels good.
