Employee Spotlight: Frederik

What made you choose Sonic Minds as an employer specifically?
I wanted to try something new and challenge myself. I came from the game audio world and then this opportunity just popped up. It was a chance to think deeper about individual sounds and their meaning instead of just producing to make things sound cool.

When you make an audio logo, there’s a lot of depth behind its creation that the game audio space lacks sometimes and I wanted to try that out.

What are some of your hobbies?
Gaming is my main hobby. Reading a bit, I read a lot of different things, from history to fantasy. I also like hiking to experience things slowly.

What is something you want to learn this year?
I have been digging a lot into stoicism philosophies from ancient Greek and Roman philosophers. I am trying to apply those philosophies to my life.

My profession is highly based on immersing people in a specific world. Whether branding, games, audio, whatever it is. It’s really about being presented with a world and then making it come alive, making it feel real.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?
Danish phrase: “Hvis det ikke går, så går det nok alligevel“.
If it doesn’t work out, it’ll probably work out anyway – mom.

How would you describe your profession?
Magic and stress. My profession is highly based on immersing people in a specific world. Whether branding, games, products, whatever it is. It’s really about being presented with a world and then making it come alive, making it feel real. Branding has that as well. The world you enter, like a website or an app, gets you immersed into a space if it has great audio, and makes the world come alive.

What are you most looking forward to work-wise?
I like to really involve myself with new clients and get to know them, so that when we have to create the sounds it will be the best sound we could have possibly made. Also, finding better and more creative ways of being efficient and making those worlds come alive. Through creative UI sound designs, events, or something really small.

What is your greatest strength?
I believe that my greatest strength is discipline and empathy. I have a long background as a jazz guitarist, and the way that you learn how to play an instrument is through daily exercise routines, including scales up and down a certain amount of time each day and weekly. Deadlines and everything like that taught my brain to work in a very specific way where you have to be very disciplined about it. Combined with my passion for video games as well, in the sense that in a game you get a very specific goal: You have to save the princess or collect ten apples or whatever it is, which my brain also really likes; having that very specific objective. I’ve applied that to everything in my life. Empathy helps me understand people, their goals, their and ultimately helps me create sounds that serve people or provides just the right amount of emotional impact.
